I’m the kind of person who thinks good espresso has to be at least double shots.
I was curious whether a true low-dose basket could produce a satisfying espresso without sacrificing flavor but I wasn’t actually expecting this one to exceed my expectations.
The biggest advantage is efficiency. Using just 10–11 grams of coffee, it consistently produces a rich, balanced single shot that doesn’t feel watered down or under-extracted. It’s a great way to stretch premium beans while still enjoying a full-bodied espresso. I honestly didn’t think it could be done.
Build quality is excellent. The AISI food grade 304 stainless steel feels substantial.
The ridgeless design makes inserting and removing the basket super easy. Finished pucks release cleanly into the knock box,. Cleanup is as quick as a rinse.
Like any precision basket, it benefits from careful puck prep. A quick pass with a WDT tool followed by a level tamp results in smooth, even extractions with very little channeling.
Dialing in does require a little patience. The precision-drilled holes naturally create more resistance than a standard basket, so expect to grind slightly coarser than your normal espresso setting. After a couple of adjustment shots, it becomes very repeatable and produces excellent, delicious and consistent shots.
This basket is ideal for anyone who enjoys traditional Italian-style single dark roast espressos, or someone who wants to reduce bean consumption, or simply likes experimenting with different extraction styles.
It’s also an excellent option when you don’t want the caffeine of a full double shot.
Once dialed in, it delivers consistently sweet, balanced shots while using nearly half the coffee of a typical double basket.
